Chinese Orchestra
Chinese Orchestra (CO) nurtures responsible, disciplined and passionate musicians. Through structured training, students with or without prior musical experience develop instrumental skills, leadership, self-discipline and teamwork while striving for holistic excellence.
Introduction
CO develops BDS students holistically, sharpening 21st Century Competencies through musical excellence and teamwork. Our ensemble brings together a rich variety of instruments, from Chinese woodwinds and strings such as the dizi, sheng, suona, ruan, liuqin, pipa, yangqin and erhu, to Western instruments like the cello and double bass, complemented by a mixed-culture percussion section. Beyond technical skills, students explore the historical stories behind each musical score, deepening their cross-cultural literacy while cultivating hard work, mutual respect, and perseverance. This dedication is reflected in our consecutive Certificate of Distinction and Accomplishment awards at the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation, as CO remains committed to fostering team unity and nurturing future-ready, confident performers.
