Student Leadership Mission
The Bedok South Secondary School Student Leadership Programme aims to nurture self-motivated, resilient, and critical-thinking individuals who serve society with conviction and face future challenges with courage. Grounded in a holistic approach, our progressive, tiered framework ensures that every student acquires foundational leadership skills, while providing specialized development pathways to empower the visionary leaders of tomorrow.

The Student Leadership Framework: Empowering Every Voice
Our Student Leadership Framework is designed to nurture the leader within every student, providing a structured yet inclusive pathway for personal growth. Anchored in the Kouzes and Posner's The Leadership Challenge Model and built upon our core ICARE values, the framework guides students through three progressive tiers of development:
Tier 1: Foundational Growth (All Students) Leadership starts with self-leadership. Every student participates in foundational training integrated seamlessly into Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) lessons and Cohort Programmes.
Tier 2: Role-Specific Excellence (Appointed Leaders) Students who step into specific leadership appointments receive specialized training tailored to their roles, equipping them with the practical skills needed to guide their peers effectively.
Tier 3: Community Impact (Advanced Leaders) Our senior leaders take their responsibilities a step further, driving initiatives beyond the classroom and CCA boundaries. They spearhead Student-Initiated Projects that create meaningful, lasting impacts on both the school and the wider community.

Prefectorial Board
At Bedok South Secondary, our Prefectorial Board serves as active builders of our school culture, striving to cultivate a strong sense of identity, and belonging among all BDSians. By fostering close partnerships with teachers and fellow student leaders (Peer Support Leaders and CCA leaders),our prefects are committed to upholding discipline as a cornerstone of our school culture.
We empower our student leaders to exercise their student agency and creativity, encouraging them to think strategically, solve problems with initiative, and spearhead projects that serve both the school and the wider community. Through a comprehensive development journey—encompassing on-the-job experiences, workshops, service (such as social advocacy projects), and mentorship, our prefects ensure they remain anchored in principled leadership while actively forging a vibrant, close-knit, and unified school community.

Class Committee
We believe that leadership is a skill that can be nurtured in every BDSian, regardless of prior experience. The Class Committee serves as a platform for students to begin their leadership journey by serving their classmates. Through milestone trainings and structured guidance, students take on The Leadership Challenge to progressively develop their confidence and 21st century competencies required of an effective leader:
• Secondary One Class Committee members are supported through clearly scoped roles that provide opportunities for them to develop values like empathy and responsibility.
• From Secondary Two onwards, Class Committee members operate as a collaborative team of equals, whereby they co-create their shared goal and collectively define their roles to achieve it.
CCA Leaders
CCA leaders are guided and mentored by their respective CCA teachers-in-charge. They include Captains of Sports CCAs, Sergeant Majors of Uniformed Groups, and Presidents or Chairpersons of Performing Arts and Clubs and Societies.
CCA leaders play a pivotal role in shaping the culture of their CCAs by leading their peers through positive role modelling, upholding discipline, and fostering active participation, commitment, and a strong sense of belonging among members.
