Values in Action

Introduction

A learning experience in Character & Citizenship Education (CCE) that enhances students’ development as socially responsible citizens through ownership of their contribution to the community.

Approach & Pedagogy

BDS VIA Framework
Our BDS VIA aims to:

  • support students’ development as Leaders of Tomorrow who will Serve with Conviction, to contribute meaningfully to the community;

  • foster student ownership over how they contribute to the community;

Process:

  • As part of VIA, students reflect on their experience, the values they have put into practice, and how they can continue to contribute meaningfully.

  • We adopt the BDS approach where we focus on three levels of students involvement: Baseline, Development and Stretch.

Assessment Criteria

A Component of Leap 2.0

This domain recognises students’ development as socially responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to the community. Every secondary school student will contribute at least 6 hours per school year to the community. They can choose to embark on a Values-In-Action project (VIA). Students will be recognised for the time they put into planning, service and reflection, when participating in a VIA project.

Note: One example of an approach to VIA is Service-Learning. Time spent on VIA projects, including the planning, service and reflection components, will count towards the minimum hours of service stated in the above criterion.

BDS Internationalisation and National Education Development Programme (BIND)

BDS Internationalisation and National Education Development Programme (BIND) includes twinning programmes with overseas educational institutions, Community Involvement Programmes (OCIP), and learning journeys to various countries. This programme has provided our students with opportunities to interact with people from various parts of the world so that they will be more culturally savvy and attuned to the fast-changing global environment. At the same time, students also enhance interpersonal relationships with their own classmates, peers and teachers.
